Park Close Road is handily placed for so many of the town’s facilities and attributes. The Waitrose store, several shops, junior and infant schools, The Alton House Hotel, St Mary’s Church, a real ale inn, doctors and dental surgeries, a chemist and bus services, as well as the station, are in the immediate neighbourhood. A commuter service to London Waterloo operates with a minimum journey time of 67 minutes, whilst the Watercress Line runs to the Itchen Valley town of Alresford. Hangers Way, a spectacular 21 mile long footpath through the South Downs, starts by Alton station.
